Mexican stock exchange considers listing crypto futures
The Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) is considering listing crypto futures on its derivatives exchange. This was announced during an interview by the platform's CEO José-Oriol Bosch.
The top manager allowed for the addition of futures on the affiliated Mexican Derivatives Exchange (MexDer).
Bosch also said the BMV was seeking approval for virtual assets exchange-traded funds (ETF) on its International Quotation System (SIC), a platform where foreign securities are traded.
According to Bosch, the initiative was raised in a negotiations with the country's financial regulator. The exchange CEO stressed that the authorities want to be careful and avoid a situation similar to the dot-com boom of the late 90s.
Earlier in September, the Bank of Mexico, the country's Ministry of Finance and banking regulator said that crypto assets are not legal tender in Mexico and warned financial institutions about sanctions for the use of bitcoin.
